Hormone Basics

An introduction to the endocrine system, the hormones associated with menstruation and menopause to provide background biology for the modules that follow. Learning outcomes: understand the different sources and the role of Oestrogens, Testosterone and Progesterone.

Menstruation awareness

Covering the hormones involved, the cycle stages, how to encourage awareness, support choices for each phase. Learning outcomes: Joining the dots between knowledge and understanding of menopause with previous held beliefs around menstruation. Introduce the food & mood diary and tracking for ongoing awareness.

Menopause

What is menopause? Phases and stages, including the STRAW+10 model. Learning outcomes: Understand the definition of menopause and the biology behind it.

The Hormone Collective

A closer look at the hormone collective and the modern menopause. Learning outcomes: understand the role of hormones as a whole and the cumulative effect they play on symptoms of menopause transition, health risks of postmenopause in relation to the hormone collective, insight into the whole person approach.

Signs & Symptoms

The grouping of symptoms as physical and psychological, predicted patterns, and why treating symptoms is better with a whole person approach. Learning outcomes: Understand the biological mechanism of symptoms, their impact on an individual level, and the connection between hormonal decline.

Risks & Consequences

The long-term impact of hormonal decline, possible health outcomes and data driven risk factors. Learning outcomes: Understand the reason why decisions made during the reproductive years affects the health and outcomes postmenopause.

Hormone based therapies

The options for treatments medically prescribed. Learning outcomes: Understand the different kinds of HRT.

Complementary and lifestyle therapy

Nutritional insight, moving through menopause, sleeping hygiene and stress management, and complementary therapy. Learning outcomes: start to see how the menopause tool-kit can be compiled.

The Menopause Tool-kit:

The questionnaire, using the tracker, the food & mood diary, what to say to the GP. Learning outcomes: Gain an insight into how to inform, guide and support as a Menopause Doula

An opportunity to reflect and demonstrate understanding.
